# AI File Chat: Extract Insights from PDFs and Docs

> Upload a PDF, Word document, or CSV to Nexus AI and chat with it directly. Get summaries, key data points, and specific answers from your files instantly.

AI File Chat lets you turn static documents into interactive conversations. Instead of reading through lengthy reports or contracts manually, you upload your file and ask Nexus AI exactly what you need to know — getting precise, context-aware answers pulled directly from your document's content.

## Supported file types

## Chatting with a file

  <Step title="Open AI File Chat">
    From your [Nexus AI dashboard](https://app.mynexusai.com), click **AI File Chat** in the navigation menu. You'll see the file upload panel.

  <Step title="Upload your file">
    Drag and drop your file into the upload area, or click **Browse** to select a PDF, Word document, or CSV from your device.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for processing">
    Nexus AI will index your document. This typically takes a few seconds for most files. Larger documents may take slightly longer.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Ask your questions">
    Type your question into the chat input. For example: *"Summarise this document"* or *"What are the key findings in section 3?"* Nexus AI will respond with answers drawn directly from your file.

  <Step title="Copy or export your insights">
    Click **Copy** on any response to grab the text, or use **Export Conversation** to save the full chat as a reference document.

  For best results with large documents, ask specific questions rather than broad summaries. For example, *"What does section 4 say about payment terms?"* will return sharper results than *"Tell me about this document."*
